Vetiver is a resilient grass that can survive both floods and droughts, making Haiti's climate particularly favorable for it. Vetiver helps prevent erosion and provides additional nutrients to the soil. Nearly half of the world's available vetiver essential oil is exported by Haiti.

How Does It Work?

From Haiti

Vetiver belongs to the grass family. It can grow roots up to 2-4 meters deep, making it ideal for preventing erosion. Unlike most grasses, its roots grow vertically rather than horizontally. The essential oil is extracted from the roots of the plant through distillation. The longer vetiver roots stay in the ground, the better quality oil they yield. That's why we give our growers extra commission for leaving the roots in the ground longer. Ideally, vetiver should be harvested 12-18 months after planting.
