How does sourcing work?
From Australia
Tea Tree is a shrub-like, evergreen tree. The essential oil made from it is extracted from the leaves by steam distillation. Originally used by Australian Aboriginals for health purposes, when World War II broke out, many soldiers in the Australian army carried a small bottle of Tea Tree essential oil with them to war. The Australian Tea Tree plantation that serves as doTERRA's source is a natural habitat for kangaroos. The trees grow from spring to late autumn, and harvesting only takes place during the winter months to extend the growing season as much as possible. Harvesting can even be performed on the same trees year after year, as the trees regenerate three to six weeks after harvest. Thanks to sustainable harvesting practices, Australian Tea Tree plantations have continuously been able to enhance the integrity and fertility of the same farmlands for their 18 years of existence.
