The English name "grapefruit" refers to the fruit growing in clusters, similar to "grapes." Known for its tangy, bitter taste, the grapefruit is the spherical, orange- and lemon-yellow fruit of an evergreen citrus tree. Grapefruit essential oil is extracted from the outer layer of the fruit's peel and is valued for its numerous uses and beneficial properties, as well as its refreshing aroma and distinctive flavor.

Caution
Only apply diluted. Do not take more than one drop per day. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If in contact with skin, avoid sunlight and UV radiation for at least 12 hours.
Sourcing
Grapefruit is a hybrid of sweet orange and pomelo. The "x" in its Latin name (Citrus x paradisi) refers to this hybrid origin. It was created in Barbados sometime in the 1750s. Grapefruit trees typically grow to 5–6 meters tall, but can sometimes reach up to 15 meters. The essential oil extracted from the fruit is cold-pressed from its peel. Like many other citrus oils, grapefruit essential oil is produced from fruit that is discarded by the fresh fruit processing industry. Grapefruits that are no longer marketable in the fresh market due to bruising or other aesthetic defects are typically used to make juice and essential oil. The fruit's juice and the oil it contains are separated, allowing the discarded fruit to be used for two purposes at once.
